Coronel and Falklands 1914: Duel in the South Atlantic (Campaign) by Michael McNally

Description

Upon the outbreak of conflict in August 1914, the British Royal Navy was once deployed globally, while apart from a small number of native vessels, the Imperial German Navy was targeted in two areas – Home Waters (i.e. the North Sea and the Baltic) and Tsingtao in China, the house port of the crack East Asia Cruiser Squadron which, below the command of Admiral Reichsgraf von Spee contained a few of Germany's most up to date cruisers. As it used to be clear that Spee's quite small pressure would be speedy overwhelmed via superior enemy numbers, the Admiralty in Berlin straight away ordered him to weigh anchor and return to Germany, a mission that many were to describe as a Himmelfahrtskommando or suicide mission. Whether Spee made it or now not, the principle consideration was that he would tie down a lot of enemy warships and for this reason forestall their deployment in other areas. This Raid title details all elements of the exciting mission.
